THE
ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN (1960)
(film)
Composer: Burton
Lane
Lyricist: Alan Jay Lerner
Opened: June 17,
1960
Note: Lane originally worked on a musical version of Huckleberry Finn in 1950 with lyricist E.Y. Harburg. When Harburg was blacklisted, Lane teamed up with Lerner on the project circa 1951-1952. MGM shelved production of the movie when Gene Kelly became unavailable to star in it. MGM, however, retained ownership of the Lane-Lerner songs and subsequently used some of them in a different Huckleberry Finn movie in 1960.
